Latency and bandwidth are not related. Some of you need to stop talking about your XX Mbps connections as if that number actually mattered.

hmm, 3 people in my guild that have also been having lag problems are telling me their computers are running REALLY hot after that update a couple of weeks ago..
anyone else notice this? my computer has a lot of cooling so hard to tell on my set up.
maybe a bug on the client side, making the game use a lot more resources and cause local lag on ppls computers?

I have a window air conditioner cooling my computer so not much chance of overheating. I got a new I7 X58 3.0ghz with 6gb of memory ana 9800GT vid card. No lag either on anything so far.

For a person that knows what's inside of their rig...
You have absolutely no idea how irrelevant your PC is to lag, unless you are using a wireless connection, in which case only location matters. You can have even 1.0GHz single-cored Pentium III, you won't get lags if your Internet is good. But if your Internet connection between your PC and GW servers sucks, even i7's and triple-SLI 280GT x3 won't help.
Lag =/= FPS problems.

I'm not sure what the cause is, but all evening I was running into problems.
Heroes and henchies not running anywhere -- just teleporting from place to place. Skills not activating, then a flurry of action. Almost all night I had a green ping dot, and haven't done a tracert to check. It could be graphics, it could be lag.
Still, I haven't had this problem much before. It happened occasionally, but tonight it was really horrid. It made me glad that I wasn't trying to play anywhere that needed decent reaction time (just running around the Crystal Desert with a new paragon).

Besides latency lag there is also a thing called graphics lag and I was talking about that as well. Learn to comprehend before you start thinking for others please.

This has been going on for 3-4 months now,
The support team were no help for me, neither was my ISP.. My ISP (Virgin ADSL) said my connection was absolutely fine, no problems what so ever, flawless.
I've tried EVERYTHING there is, send gw.diag. results, pingplotter results and just everything there is to do, (i have even tried the cooling systems, graphics updates, defrag and more) this must be a problem at ANet's end but they just can't see it. (that's my opnion anyway)
It's all fine for 5 minutes when i log on but then as more people start logging on later on in the night - BOOM lagg. I can NEVER see an orange ping at the least in towns such as LA, Kamadan, Keineng. If i can get to unpopular places such as Frontier Gate say, id be lucky to get a green ping.
My guess is because there are way too many people on the servers, that's the only option i can think of.
Im from England (maybe that's something to do with it.)
Any help thrown my way by ANet or something would be appreciated.
(Oh and another thing, i mostly get a good ping in explorables and it stays that way until i zone again, but if i get a bad ping when i first zone into the area, i just zone in and back out again until the ping is good, what's going on there?)

I have been thinking it was just my computer that was giving me fits, but with all the other problems out there it seems like it may not be. Ever since that last update i have been getting lag every so often and after I shut GW off my computer runs slower then ever. IMHO I have no clue xD

this is weird i was fine for about a month after sending in a support ticket, my lagspikes mysteriously disappeared....
tonight they're back, and for no apparent reason. when i get 10-15 sec lagouts ping plotter shows everything fine on my end. not sure what to make of this other than anets not telling us something OR my modem is dying (but its only ~6 mnth old...)

I have been communicating with GW support and my provider. (An hour's worth of Pingplotter) Both are telling me, it is not their servers, it is in between my provider and ANet. Nothing either can do about it.
I don't understand why it takes 12 or 13 hops to reach plaync from here (outside KC,MO). My house to provider, then 2 stops in Kansas City, 2 stops in Kentucky, 2 in Tennessee, 2 in Dallas, 2 in LA, then a couple random locations. Packet losses in Tennessee(13%), Dallas(6%), LA(33%), and 1 of the randoms(15%).
I log in, takes 10 to 15 minutes and 2 or 3 DC's to cross outpost to exit. Once outside town, minimal lag. Do what I want as long as I don't re-enter outpost. This is using Asian districts. I freeze completely when using American districts. (Getting lonely here is Asia.)

Trust me, it's not your provider's fault. I thought the same thing a few months ago and did the similar process of contacting both NCSoft's technical support and my provider's. Finally, a guy from my provider's technical support team put it in perspective for me. He basically asked me to run other games with similar online requirements. It's not hard to imagine what we figured out.
Basically, if other online games run fine on your computer then it's GW's fault. I can play L4D, WoW, and several other online games perfectly and w/o major lag issues for many hours at a time. However, I can play GW for about 1-2 hours before I start lagging so badly that it's not worth playing.....oh, and some days it just plain unplayable.....

my lag has cleared up for the most part, TYVM anet, i still get a spike now and then, but the game is playable, not nearly as bad as it was for a couple weeks (i even have a ss of "last ping 132k, average ping 132k"). nothing makes you want to rage quit a game like losing to terrible scrubs bcoz you couldnt move or activate skills for 4 mins and 2 ppl in ur guild never loaded, only to have said scrubs pm you non stop after about how hard they pwnd u. >.<, cant have skill based pvp when the game lags so bad, its lag based pvp, whoever had less lag wins.
anyways ty anet, i dont have to /uninstall now.
heres a tip you should try if ur having lag issues, anet doesnt tell you this but the gw.dat file has to be replaced every so ofter, ive been playing since beta and have had a few times that i had so much lag that i contacted support, after defragging the computer, running antivirus, anti malware, etc, removing startup program, cleaning up the registry, running line tests, downloading new bios, direct x and drivers for everything, contacting isp, ETC, i realized that uninstalling and reinstalling gw, usually fixed the problem, just make sure you use the -image command to d/l the full upto date gw.dat, if you want you can make a copy and save it in another folder as a backup, ive only had to do this 3 or 4 times since i started playing gw.
im not saying this fill fix ur lag probs, it prolly wont if ur having the same prob i was ( im convinced it was server side) but this has fixed most of my gw probs, so thought i would share.

The lagbeast has returned, right at noon.
Pretty much impossible to be in any explorable at the moment, without running face first into a wall.

Anet seemed to have nerfed the raptor farming by making it impossible to even go into the cave. And if you do, you almost get 60DP trying to collect your items, because you lag enough to where you can't kill everything.

I have experienced 'event lag' before, but the game was always playable for me, the bit of lag didn't bother me much.
But since today's event started, Riven Earth for me has an average ping of 8,000-10,000. Wow. I have never rubberbanded without actually getting stuck before. See you in a few hours I guess.
